The Pedagogy of Writing Case Studies: A Grounded Learning Approach
JSME Vol 6: Issue 3, 2010

Abstract:
Case-based education is an effective approach to management education. While the traditional use of pre-written case studies have their place, they are not without shortcomings. To overcome some of these limitations, we have successfully integrated case writing into our strategic management classes. Based on the theory of grounded learning (Mosca & Howard, 1997; Schwarz, 1985), case writing by students can be an effective pedagogical technique. In this vein, we have created a useful guide to direct student efforts in writing a case study. This guide can also be successfully utilized by faculty members who wish to create and publish their own case studies.
