Knowledge in Internet Supported Organisations

Abstract:
Knowledge use in Internet Supported Organisations (those relying heavily on the Internet in the conduct of their operations) might be expected to be somewhat different to knowledge use in the conventional organisations that have hitherto been the main focus of study.
The paper proposes a division of knowledge into Intuitive Knowledge (which cannot be formulated as propositions) and Propositional Knowledge. The paper concentrates on the latter. A rule for evaluating the effect of knowledge combination is proposed and a possible metric (which has some deficiencies) is given.
The idea of knowledge exchange is discussed and a number of different processes of knowledge exchange are described. For each process a number of research questions associated with it are given.
A concluding section looks at some of the potential difficulties associated with the study of these research questions and possible literatures that may be relevant to overcoming them.
